Listed in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a baptismal font of the Perpendicular period. Not mentioned in Pevsner (1958). Kelly's directory of 1883 mentions an old font in Hutton Court, not in the church. According to Kelly's description the Court "was formerly an ecclesiastical establisment, supposed to have belonged to the Abbey of Glastonbury : it has a fine old hall with open oak roof, and in the passage leading thereto is curious old font". The Church of St. Mary's guide [http://stmaryshutton.org/Documents/Guide.PDF] a[ccessed 21 September 2009] describes the font located in the northwest corner of the nave: "octagonal font, of simple Perpendicular style but of unknown date". The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: ST3524558598] informs: "Church. C15, major extension and restoration 1849 [...] simple, octagonal font of late date".
