Described in Guerra (1986 c1978: 248), who comments on the symbolism of the serpent. Described in Bilbao (1996: 297 et al.) as a baptismal font of the Romanesque period; the basin, ribbed inside and out, resembles a wooden vat on the outside with a rope decoration that appears to hold the staves together; the upper base shows a battle scene between two animals: a large serpent coils around the legs and body of a lion while its head bites at the lion's snout. Bilbao's description of the basin is rather insaccurate; the basin is roughly hemispherical in shape and decorated with broad convex ribs on the outside, the ribed pattern has two overimposed parallel bands of decoration; the upper band is a two-strand interlace, while the lower band is made up of foliage; both are very eroded now; also it appears that it is the lion's jaws that bite the snake's head, not the other way around. No font cover present. The Enciclopedia del románico en Castilla y León (2002- ) indicates similarities between the fonts at Bañuelos del Rudrón, Grijalba, Villegas, Villamayor de Treviño, La Piedra, Villasandino, Rebolledo de Traspeña y Los Valcárceres. The font was restored 12 December 2020 [http://www.adecocamino.es/proyectos-financiados/.16.html [accessed 12 December 2020]
