Described in Ordax (1995) as a Baroque chalice-shaped font with human figures and medallion(s); Latin inscription just below the rim; the upper part of the base has floral ornament; the round pedestal rests on a small square plinth (Andrés Ordax, 1995, p. 356-357 with ill.) Described in Mélida (1925, v. 2, p. 271) as a Renaissance style marble font; he identifies the emblems of the three shields which adorn the font: 1)Order of Santiago, charged with cross and lion, with lions "tenantes"; 2)Papacy, charged with two shells, with figures "tenantes"; 3)Head of John the Baptist, with figures "tenantes". He describes the base as a Ionic column. The Hornachos entry in the Diputación de Badajoz web site [wew.dip-badajoz.es/municipios/municipio_dinamico/monumentos/index_monumentos.php?codigo=072] [accessed 17 December 2020] notes: "pila bautismal, primorosa pieza de alabastro obra de Juan Bautista Vázquez el Viejo, pareja de la de Valencia de las Torres". There are two holy-water stoups, both with small basins raised on tall slender plain columns; one of the two looks suspiciously like an old-fashioned grain measure, a tapering round volume with four outer protrusions; the other appears to be cylindrical and plain.
