There is a multiple-place entry for Eryholme [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/NZ3209/eryholme/] [accessed 12 November 2019]; it reports two churches in it. Cox & Harvey (1907) list a baptismal font of the Norman period. The entry for the parish of Gilling in the Victoria County History (York North Riding, vol. 1, 1914) notes: "The church of ST. MARY THE VIRGIN, Eryholme [...] The north arcade dates from c. 1200, and though the chancel and nave probably stand on the foundations of the church which existed at that time and were older than the arcade, they have been entirely rebuilt in the 14th century or later, and the tower is a 16th-century addition"; the VCH entry mentions no font in this church. Morris (1931) notes: "The rude circular font is perhaps Norm[an]". The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: NZ3206509008] notes: "Church. c1200, C13, C14, C16, restored c1890. [...] Late C12 - early C13 font, with plain circular basin on short circular stem."
