Whellan (1859) and Bulmer's Directory of 1890 both report a Norman font in this church. Listed in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a baptismal font of the Norman period. The Victoria County History (North Riding, vol. 2, 1923) notes: ''The font is circular, the bowl being moulded at the upper and lower edge and dating from the 14th century.'' There is no font mentioned in Pevsner (1985), but the Parish web site [http://www.ebberston.com/page5.html] [accessed 5 July 2008] mentions a ''Norman font'' inside the church. [NB: if the font was Norman it must have been re-cut, as the present design is not 12th-century, but later]. The cover is flat and round, covered or reinforced with metal; ring handle; date unklnown.
