view of church exterior - west portal
Scene Description: Source caption: "St Mary's church, west door. The west door at the base of the tower looks Norman in style, but how much of it is 12th century and how much is Victorian restoration? To quote Pevsner & Neave [Buildings of England, Yorkshire East Riding] - 'a restored west doorway of three orders, with scalloped capitals and an arch with orders of beakhead and a kind of abstract beakhead'. This contributor came away none the wiser."
