There is an entry for Skirpenbeck [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SE7457/skirpenbeck/] [accessed 17 February 2025] but it mentions neither priest nor church in it. In Bulmer (1892) as an "ancient and circular" font. Listed in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a baptismal font of the Norman period. The baptismal font is tub-shaped, cylindrical and monolithic, raised on a later octagonal plinth; the upper half of the basin side is decorated with a blind arcade of round intersecting arches in shallow relief, eroded in some parts; flat wooden lid with metal reinforcements, appears modern, as does the plinth. The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SE7498357221] informs: "Church. C12 nave and chancel, C18 west tower, C19 south porch and north vestry [...] C12 tub font with intersecting arcades." The entry for this church in the CRSBI [https://www.crsbi.ac.uk/view-item?i=3543] [accessed 17 February 2025] informs: "The font is situated in the SW corner of the nave; it has a cylindrical shape with a band of intersecting arcading on the upper part of the drum. The rim is wide and may have had a circle inscribed near the outer edge, but like the rest of the font, damage and wear have made the treatment less obvious. The arcading on the N side is better preserved than elsewhere. The arcade has block bases, perhaps stepped, and capitals or imposts which are probably chamfered; as usual, no particular architectural phase is suggested by this arcading. The arches do not merge or meet on the capitals but there is a definite gap between the pairs. The basin of the font is one continuous sagging curve."
