Described in Moule (1837): "The font is circular and elegantly formed; it is enriched with eight attached pillars, and is of Anglo-Norman construction." Sheahan & Whellan (1857) write: ''The font is ancient and circular, with eight attached columns, which support an ornament of Norman workmanship.'' Noted in Glynne's November 1865 visit to this church (in Butler, 2007): "The font is Norman; the bowl circular, with stem surrounded by shafts." In Bulmer's 1892 directory: "The font is supposed to be the work of the 12th century. The circular basin rests on eight attached columns, and above one are carved three stars." Listed in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a baptismal font of the Norman period. In Pevsner & Neave (1995): ''Norman, a fine piece, circular with attached colonnettes, fleurs-de-lis above them, and a top band of intersecting arches.''
