There are two entries for this Lockington [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SE9947/lockington/] [accessed 31 July 2014], neither of which mentions a priest or church in it. English Heritage [Listing NGR: SE9971646854] (1968) notes: "Church. C12 nave, early C13 west tower (embraced) rebuilt in C17", but mentions no font in it. A font here is listed in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a baptismal font of the Norman period. The baptismal font consists of a plain cylindrical basin with a chamfered underbowl, raised on a plain cylindrical pedestal base, and a square lower base; the interior of the basin well is lead-lined and it has a central drain-hole; the staples of the old cover have survived on the upper rim and are now used for the round flat wooden cover which appears Victorian. The outer surface of the font appears to have been re-tooled, or drastically cleaned.
