Parker (1855) reported only a modern font in this church. Described and illustrated in Knott ([2005?]), who reports that the font from Ipswich St. Lawrence was moved to St. Nicholas when St Lawrence church was renovated in the 1860s: "The font is a good one; the bowl features sixteen niches, two on each panel, which were presumably painted at one time, perhaps with Saints. The stem is supported by the four Evangelists, each holding a scroll." The octagonal basin has pairs of cinquefoil arches or windows on the sides; the underbowl chamfer has the usual cherub heads, but here in the appearance of normal human heads, wearing stylish head-dress, at the angles; the octagonal stem has four standing figures holding inscribed scrolls (two of them are clearly shown holding a writing implement), but they appear to be saints, at least one female, rather than the four Evangelists.
