Font Notes:
Noted in Parker (1855) as a plain font of the Early English period. Listed in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a baptismal font of the Early English period. Knott (2008) remarks: "the font bowl is a most unusual shape - I think it must once have been square, and was cut to its octagonal pattern to suit changing fashions." [NB: it is difficult to evaluate or gage Parker's descriptions; in this case 'plain' may mean simply without complex carving, but not necessarily indicate that the spurs were not there at the time]. The strange-looking basin appears now as octagonal, but every other side with a polygonal protrusion in the shape of a spur; it is raised on an octagonal pedestal base made of blocks. The wooden cover has a crown-like base with a octagonal pyramid of slightly concave sides; appears modern.
