No entry for this Langham found in the Domesday survey. Cox & Harvey (1907) list a baptismal font of the Decorated period here. The Victoria County History (Rutland, vol. 2, 1935) notes: "The chapel of St. Peter and St. Paul [...] was probably in existence in 1229, when certain immunities were granted to the tenants of Oakham Church and its chapels, (fn. 55) and it is mentioned as a chapelry of Oakham in 1534 and 1584. [...] The existing plan may have developed from a cruciform 12th-century building with tower at the crossing, but of this older fabric no part remains, the earliest parts of the present building being the chancel and tower, which are of 13th-century date, at which period probably the whole church was rebuilt, the central tower, if such existed, being removed either when the new tower at the west end was begun or at its completion. [...] The 14th-century font has a plain octagonal bowl moulded on the underside, and square stem with attached shafts with fillets and moulded bases, on an octagonal plinth. It has a modern flat oak cover." The VCH (ibid.) reports on a 17th-century archdeacon's visitation which noted the font was lacking a cover in 1605 [NB: we do not know whether or not a cover was provided at the time; the present cover, as noted in the VCH above, is modern]. The basin shows signs of a restoration with inserts of new stone, and some re-tooling [or drastic cleaning].
