Described in Cox & Harvey (1907) as an Early English font of exceptional trough-like shape; a font cover dated 1660. Cox (1912) notes: "Under tower old font of curious trough-like shape; it measures 2 ft. 7 in. by 2 ft., and is 8 in. deep ; corners chamfered, and old lead lining, so that it seems designed after rude fashion for a font; date probably I3th cent.; coved oak cover, c. 1660." Listed in Guilford (1927). Stocker (1997), too, remarks on the shape.
