Lewis' Dictionary of 1831 reports the chapel but does not mention a font in it. Wilson (1870) notes and ancient font in this church. Cox & Harvey (1907) describe it as a baptismal font of the Norman period. Not mentioned in Pevsner (1957). English Heritage [Listing NGR: NU2021720231] (1969) reports: "Font has triple-stepped square shaft and restored moulded hexagonal bowl." Bosanquet (2012) [www.northumberlandlife.org/stphilipandstjameschurchrock/Page2.asp [accessed 31 October 2014] reports: "The font near the west door is partly ancient."
