Engraving of this font made in 1862 by J.T. Irvine, now in the the Sir Henry Dryden Collection (ref. no.: DR/25/272/001), Northamptonshire. Described in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a baptismal font of the Perpendicular period. [NB: are there two fonts here?] Maguire (1970) includes this font in a group the decoration of which appear to be related to that on a fragment from St Andrew's Priory. Pevsner & Cherry (1973) relate the "leaf capitals inside the lunettes and in the spandrels below" on the font at Paulerspury to the decoration on the font at Tiffield, which is described as: "Circular, Norman, with upside-down lunettes beaded along the rim and filled with leaves. Leaves also in the spandrels below. The same design as at Paulerspury." The Corpus of Romanesque Sculpture in Britain and Ireland (2008) notes this as a font "of the lively workshop from St Peter's, Northampton, active in the 1140s and '50s. Other fonts by these sculptors are found in the county at Green's Norton, Paulerspury, Dodford, Tiffield and Weedon Lois, and nearby at Maids' Moreton (Bucks)." The CRSBI points out an odd boat-shaped (?) motif below one of the inverted arches of the basin side; this arch was rendered much smaller than the rest, and so was the foliated motif in the spandrel, to accommodate the off motif; it is a somewhat incongruent decoration, as the other motifs are of the standard foliated type often found on in Romanesque spandrels.
