Parker (1849) writes: "The font is late Perpendicular, and by far the best feature in the church." Noted in Whellan (1849): "The font is massive, and very beautiful." Listed in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a good example of the Norman period. Mee (1945) notes that there are vestiges of a Saxon arch, but that the original fabric of the church is 13th-century, and "the font was hewn out of a block of granite in those days." Noted in Pevsner & Cherry (1972): "Octagonal. Perp[endicular]. Panelled stem. Fleurons against the underside of the bowl. Top battlements." The CRSBI entry (2008) for Cold Ashby does not include the font, as it falls outside their time frame.
