Font Notes:
Listed in Cox-Harvey (1907) as a stone baptismal font of the Perpendicular period. Noted in Pevsner & Wilson (1997): "Octagonal, C15. Four lions against the stem, four roses and four shields against the bowl." The angles of the underbowl have angel heads; the font is raised on a plain octagonal plinth. The wooden cover is an octagonal pyramid with crocketed arrises and a dove finial; either 17th-century or Victorian. [NB: this source further reports "a reused piece of a C13 font of Purbeck marble" now embeded at the foot of the banner staff locker, east of the north doorway [cf. Index entry for Strumpshaw No. 1]]
