There are two entries for Catfield in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/TG3821/catfield/] [accessed 16 December 2013], one of which reports a church in "Catefelda". Blomefield (1805-1810) writes: "The Church is dedicated to All-Saints, and consists of 2 medieties; —one of them was in the patronage of the abbot of Holm, the rector of which had in the reign of Edward I [i.e., 1272-1307] [...] William Cryketot was rector sans date. [...] Landulph de Florentia was rector about 1290." The present font here is listed in Cox-Harvey (1907) as a stone baptismal font of the Perpendicular period. Described in Tyrrell-Green (1928) as one in a group of Norfolk baptismal fonts of the Decorated period in which the tracery patterns break out of the arch or window and occupy the whole panel (in the group are: Bintry, Catfield, Deopham, Hilborough, Oxborough, Rockland All Saints', Sheringham and Thompson). Noted in Pevsner & Wilson (1997): "Font. C15. Octagonal. Flatly modelled tracery and enriched quatrefoil patterns." Illustrated in Knott (2004). [NB: we have no information on the font from the Domesday-time church here].
