Font Notes:
The Domesday entry for "Felebruge" mentions neither church nor cleric in it. Blomefield (1805-1810) states that "The church is a rectory" but gives no dedication of it; the earliest date related to the church appears to be its valuation between 1272 and 1307, "The ancient valor was 8 marks, and paid Peter-pence, 7d. In the reign of Edward I. the rector had 50 acres of land and a manse", and the entry for the forst recorded rector, "Nicholas occurs rector in 1286". Cox-Harvey (1907) list a stone baptismal font of the Decorated period in 'Felbright', Norfolk [NB: there is no 'Felbright' in this county; the description fits the font at Felbrigg]. Described in Pevsner & Wilson (1997): "Font. Octagonal, late C14, with eight shafts attached to the stem, and against the bowl on each side confused tracery patterns (cf. West Runton). The cover is 1953, by Cecil Upcher." Described and illustrated in Knott (2005). The sides between the moulded colonnettes of the base have trefoil-headed arches or windows. The font stands on an octagonal plinth. [NB: a church existed here before 1286, but we have no information on its font].
