Font Notes:
Blomefield (1805-1810) writes: "This town does not occur in the book of Domesday, being accounted for under the Earl Warren's lordship of Gressenhale, and that of the Bishop of Norwich's of Elmham, which took in all this town [...] The Church is dedicated to St. Mary, and is a rectory [...] Philip de Reedham occurs rector in the 45th of Henry III" [i.e., 1261]. The Historic Churches Preservation Trust mentions an "octagonal font, 13th century" in this church [source: 'Recent Grants' issue of the Grants Cttee. Meeting of 22 June 2004, www.historicchurches.org.uk]. Noted, and llustrated in context, in Knott (2006). The octagonal basin has plain vertical sides, and just a faint moulding at the underbowl; the octagonal stem may be a later addition; octagonal plinth. The basin may date from the original church, ca. 1261.
