Font Notes:
The Domesday survey has seven entries for Warham [variant spellings] [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/XX0000/warham-all-saints-and-st-mary/] [accessed 12 December 2013] none of which mention a church or cleric in it. Blomefield (1805-1810) writes: "Here were 3 churches— All-Saints—St. Mary's— and St. Mary Magdalen", all three of them rectories, (St. Mary's and St. Mary Magdalen consolidated), and names "Hugh de Corpusti" as first recorded rector here, in 1278. Blomefield (ibid.) has a reference to an earlier date in relation to the conveyance of "the advowson of the church of St. Mary Magdalen in this town [...] In the 18th of King John", i.e., his last year, 1216. There is also a blocked north door that appears Norman in this church. The present font is listed in Cox-Harvey (1907) as a baptismal font of the Norman period [NB: it is not clear whether or not Cox & Harvey's font may have been the octagonal -originally square- re-cut basin now kept at Warham All Saints]. Pevsner & Wilson (1997) note: "The font is a fine stone baluster of 1800-1". Noted and illustrated in Knott (2005) as a "bird-bath" font. [NB: is the old basin now at Wareham All Saints an earlier font from here?]
