Font Notes:
There are two entries for Tallington [variant spellings] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/TF0907/tallington/] [accessed 20 January 2019] neither of which mentions cleric or church in it. Paley (1844) netes a baptismal font raised on steps here. Cox & Harvey (1907) list this font both under the Early English and the Decorated periods. Betjeman (1958) notes the font cover but not the font. In Pevsner, Harris and Antram (1989): "Octagonal, plain, on five short E[arly] E[nglish] supports. Font cover. Simple, Perp[endicular]". The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: TF0913707859] notes: "Parish church. Mid C12, early C13, late C13, C14, C15, spire destroyed 1762, restored 1879. [...] Plain octagonal C13 font on 4 short octagonal legs with narrow chamfered stem having fine conical cover with C14 crockets, pinnacles and central knop." The base actually consists of four outer colonnettes and a centre shaft; the whole is raised on an octagonal lower base and a modern two-step plinth.
