There are two entries for this Coleby [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SE8919/coleby/] [accessed 7 September 2018] neither of which mentions cleric or church in it. Simpson (1828), Lewis' Dictionary of 1848, and Cox & Harvey (1907) list a Norman font here. Described and illustrated in Bond (1908) as a large round font of the 13th century with constructional shafts at the four corners; the cylindrical bowl sides have crossing round arches of dotted-tape motif resting on slender columns; it rests on a square base and plinth. Described in Wall (1912). Noted in Pevsner, Harris and Antram (1989): "Font. Drum-shaped, Norman, with intersecting arches, but with four E[arly] E[nglish] polygonal angle shafts (cf. the font at Fulbeck)." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SK9751660589] reports: "The font is C11 with interlocking arches."
