Kelly's Directory for 1891 reports: "a new font was placed in the church in 1878, in memory of the late vicar, replacing an older and still existing font of the 12th century" [source: 1996-2006 transcription by Ann & Andy Andrews reproduced in The Andrews Pages [www.andrewspages.dial.pipex.com/dby/kelly/wingfieldnorth.htm]. Listed in Cox & Harvey (1907) as baptismal font of the Norman period. Noted in Pevsner (1978): "Font. Norman, tub-shaped, with interlaced arches."
