There is a multiple-place entry for Darley [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SK2762/darley/] [accessed 3 February 2020]; it reports a priest and a church in it. Cox (1875-1877) reports "an old font, that formerly belonged to this church, and which now stands in the garden of Mr. Alfred Soreby, of the Rookery, Ashford-in-the-Water, was also described to us as being of the Norman period." Listed in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a Norman font. Noted in Pevsner (1978): circular, Norman, small, with ribbed edges". On-site notes: only the basin is Norman; four figures once ornamented the sides but, today, it is impossible to discern them in any detail; central drainage hole in the basin well; base and plinth are modern.
