Cognate Fonts: The font at Osmaston, in the same county, is similar, though not identical
Noted in Lysons (1806-1833) as a baptismal font of circular shape, "being ornamented with tracery of semicircular interlaced arches". In Glover (1831) probably after Lysons. Noted in Kelly's Directory of 1881 as a good example of Norman font on "an Early English base, its outer surface being ornamented with interlaced semi-circular arches". Described in Cox & Harvey (1907) as one of several Norman tub fonts of characteristic ornamentation in this county. Pevsner (1978): "font [...] Norman, tub-shaped, with an arcade of intersecting arches."
