Noted in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a noteworthy example of the Perpendicular style fonts; like that of Padiham, the Altham font was a gift by John Paslew, last abbot of Whalley, in the early 16th cent.; on the sides of the bowl are the letters A.Ω., M.R., S.M. and I.H.C., alternating with symbols of the Passion. Noted in the Victoria County History (Lancaster. Vol. 6, 1911), with much the same information as Cox & Harvey above. Hartwell & Pevsner (2009) describe it as Perpendicular, and give the font at Padiham as cognate. [cf. Index entry for Altham No. 1 for the earlier font in the south porch]
