Described and illustrated in Calverley (1899): "An interesting development of interlacing is seen in the font; of which the basin is no doubt contemporary with the church. The interwoven arches resemble Ingleton font, but here we have no grotesque Herod below, no wandering line of plait-work above; but a broad band of cleanly cut interlacing of the Norman open kind [compare Dearham font], with trefoil twigs set crosswise in the intersections of the bands [like patterns on the Adam stone at Dearham]. The stem of the font is much later, and bears heraldic ornament. It is yellow sandstone, 17 inches in diameter, 11 in height. The basin measures 24 inches in diameter, and is 14 in height. It is made of a silvery sparkling white sandstone, of which a quarry exists hard by. This is a softer material than the yellow stone of the stem, and crops out along the edge of the high ground above the red sandstone of the valley." Described in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a remarkable early Norman font, after Calverley. Noted in Cox (1913) as Norman: "with an interlaced band of arcading; the circular shaft is much later and bears heraldic ornament." Pevsner (1967) writes: "Font. Norman, round, with thin intersecting arches and loose knot or interlace on the underside."
