Font Notes:
Listed in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a baptismal font of the Perpendicular period, but in Cox (1912) as Decorated: "The church of St. Veep, when reconstructed in 1336, was re-dedicated by Bishop Grandison to Sts. Cyrus and Julitta […] Octagonal chalice-shaped font on octagonal base, with tracery on alternate panels of bowl, pertains to Bishop Grandison's church." The Historic Churches Preservation Trust mentions a "15th century geometric font" [source: 'Recent Grants' issue of the Grants Cttee. Meeting of 22 June 2004, www.historicchurches.org.uk]. Pevsner (1970) notes simply "Font. C15." The font consists of an octagonal basin decorated with tracery (?) panels, a chamfered underbowl ending in a centre ring, and a lower base that is almost a mirror-image of the upper half, except for the ornamentation; raised on an old plinth. Octagonal wooden cover, flat, decorated with metal reinforcements.
