Font Notes:
Listed in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a baptismal font of the Perpendicular period. Cox (1912) has it as Early English in the introduction to his work in Cornwall, but as "Octagonal chalice-shaped font is 15th cent." in the Michaelstow entry. Pevsner (1970) simply notes: "Font. Plain, octagonal (what date?)." The font consists of an octagonal basin with plain vertical sides and chamfered underbowl, raised on a three-part base: the upper half of the pedestal is octagonal, like the basin; the lower half appears cylindrical, and the lower base proper is square, cushion-capital, with two humps on each side. The whole is raised on a square plinth. Octagonal wooden cover with metal decoration and handle; probably modern.
