There is an entry for this Pillaton [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SX3664/pillaton/] [accessed 18 July 2019] but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Cox & Harvey (1907) and Cox (1912) list a baptismal font of the Decorated period here. Cox (1912) notes an old font of Polyphant stone, plain, octagonal and dated to the 15th century, in this church. Described in Tyrrell-Green (1928) as one in a very large group of baptismal fonts that are plain octagonal with straightsided basins. The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SX3670364311] notes: "Parish church. Probably C14, with additions of circa mid C15 and later C15; C19 restoration. [...] Octagonal stone font in nave, probably C19." Illustrated in A Snap in Time [http://www.caerkief.co.uk/Churches/Pillaton.html] [accessed 20 November 2009]. The basin has a rounded underbowl; raised on an octagonal stem and plinth; all parts of the font are devoid of decoration; the stem and plinth appear to be modern. The wooden cover is octagonal with raised ribs converging on a finial [NB: according to an entry by David Dolley in the Pillaton Village News [https://pillaton.org.uk/village_news/Village_News_January_2014.pdf] [accessed 18 July 2019] "The [Pearce] family carpenters also built the wooden lid of the font at Pillaton Church."]
