Noted in Lysons (1806-1833) as one of a group of Cornish fonts that “are square, very little ornamented, and supported by a pedestal and four pillars”. Listed in Cox & Harvey (1907) with a baptismal font of the Norman period. Cox (1912) notes an old font of Polyphant stone in this church, one of the few remaining items from the earlier church, a "late Norm[an] font with square bowl.". Pevsner (1970) writes: "Font. Norman, of Purbeck table-top type, square, the blank niches on one side in two tiers (cf. St Mabyn, Poughill, etc.)"
