Bond (1908) mentions the presence of a tree of possible Eastern inspiration (and animals?) on this font, but the font depicted in Paley (1844) is made of two hemispheres, totally plain except for a rope motif at the "waist" and a torus about half-way down the basin sides. Bond (ibid.) refers also to an archival source related to the font: "In 1558 the churchwardens at Stratton, Cornwall, paid 'for a loke to the vonte, vjd.'" Bond (ibid.) and Cox & Harvey (1907) list this font as Norman. Cox (1912) writes: "Circular font Norm[an], but spoilt by retooling." Listed in Tyrrell-Green (1928) as a font decorated with a rope moulding and zizag or chevron. Pevsner (1970) notes: "Font. Plain, Norman, circular." Noted and illustrated in A snap in Time [http://www.caerkief.co.uk/Churches/Stratton.html] [accessed 23 November 2009]. The wooden cover is an octagonal pyramid with an acorn finial; appears modern.
