Listed in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a noteworthy example of Transitional period baptismal font. Described in Cox (1912): "Square Norm[an] font with arcaded sides, supported by cylindrical base and 4 small shafts at angles." Listed in Tyrrell-Green (1928) as a good specimen from a group of fonts "charateristic of the Norman period in architecture", "consisting of a rectangular bowl upon a large central shaft, with four slender supporting shafts at the angles"; it has blind arcade ornamentation on the sides. Noted in Pevsner (1970): "Font. Norman, Purbeck table-top type, with plain blank arcading on the sides." Described and illustrated in A Snap in Time [http://www.caerkief.co.uk/Churches/Egloshayle.html] [accessed 16 November 2009]: "the font, of Norman date, […] bears an inscription now illegible". [NB: a holy-water stoup is reported in the south porch, but we have no date for it; could be Early English or late-medieval]]
