Described in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a fragment, "half of an early round Norman font, which has cable moulding". K. Wasley's page on Lansallos [http://homepages.tesco.net/~k.wasley/lansallos.htm] [accessed 18 November 2009] notes: "The font comes from the earlier Norman Church. The marble pillars supporting it are Georgian, an anachronism, but rather a charming one in effect. Behind the font is the oldest monument in the church-half a Celtic font buried in a field at Highertown Farm. It may have been the original font that St. Salwys used over eleven hundred years ago." [NB: we have not seen this fragment but, being made of granite, it could be that its drude appearance has resulted in being given too early a date?] An article by John Feesey (2005) [http://www.polperro.org/lansallos%20report.html] [accessed 18 November 2009] informs of a "the disastrous fire that severely damaged the beautiful, medieval Church of St Ildierna, Lansallos, on the afternoon of Saturday, 26th February this year (2005)". It appears the fire did not affect the fonts.
