Listed in Cox & Harvey (1907: 189) as a baptismal font of the Early English period, a noteworthy example. Noted in Pevsner (1971): "Font. Perp[endicular], large, octagonal, with quatrefoils on the bowl, heads against the underside, and a panelled stem." Described and illustrated in Richards (1973): "The font [...] is fifteenth century and octagonal. Sculptured on the panels of the shaft are emblems of the Passion." The font consists of an octagonal basin that has a band of motif around the upper side, while the rest of the surface is divided in the more common quatrefoiled panels; and has heads and foliage (?) motif on the underbowl chamfer; the octagonal stem has a charged shield on every other side; the lower base is octagonal and plain, as is the octagonal plinth, which is provided with a "priest stone" extension on one of the sides. The cover is octagonal and flat, with a small Latin cross finial/handle; appears modern. [We are grateful to Craig Thornber, of www.thornber.net, for the photograph of this font]
