There are four entries for this Stetchworth [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/TL6458/stetchworth/] [accessed 18 May 2016], none of which mentions cleric or church in it. Cox & Harvey (1907) include the noteworthy baptismal font at Stetchworth among the best Perpendicular fonts in the county. The entry for this church in English Heritage [Listing NGR: TL6424959028] (1959) notes: "Font C16, octagonal bowl panelled with carved head bosses to quatrefoils, supported on octagonal stem with spurs to plinth." The Victoria County History (Cambridge..., vol. 6, 1978) notes: "There was a church at Stetchworth in 1191 when the rectory was annexed to Ely priory and a vicarage was ordained. [...] The chancel, which has lancet windows, dates from the 13th century. The chancel arch and nave of four bays were rebuilt towards the end of the 14th century, and the tower arch dates from the same period, although the tower seems to have been altered or rebuilt in the 15th century. The octagonal font is 16th-century, although its base may be older."
