Font Notes:
There is an entry for this Doddington [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/TL4090/doddington/] [accessed 14 April 2016], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Cox & Harvey (1907) list a baptismal font of the Early English period here, a noteworthy example. The Victoria County History (Cambridge and the Isle of Ely, vol. 4, 2002) notes: "The chancel and part of the north aisle belong to the middle of the 13th century. There was a great reconstruction about a century later [...] In the second half of the 19th century there was an extensive restoration [...] The 13th-century font has a plain octagonal bowl resting on a central and four angle shafts, with moulded caps and bases"; the VCH (ibid.) further notes a 19th-century "gilt wooden font designed for a private chapel or oratory" in the Doddington rectory. [NB: the 1949 church interior plan reproduced in the VCH does not include the font]. According to VCH (ibid.), the churches at Benwick and Wimblington are both Victorian, the one at Benwick replacing an unconsecrated chapel of the 17th century.
