There are three entries for Ellesborough [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SP8306/ellesborough/] [accessed 11 November 2016], none of which mentions cleric or church in it. Rickman (1850) writes: "The font is D[ecorated], the sides ornamented with sunk panels, and the rim with quatrefoils." Sheahan (1862) notes that the old church "was repaired in 1852", and describes the font: "The font is Decorated; the sides ornamented with panels, and the rim with quatrefoils; it is lined with lead." In Murray (1882). Listed in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a noteworthy font of the Decorated period. The Victoria County History (Buckingham, vol. 2, 1908) notes: "Towards the close of the reign of Henry II [ca. 1189?] Gervase Paganell, then lord of Dudley honour, granted to the priory of Sandwell, in Staffordshire, as much of the church of Ellesborough as appertained to his honour. [...] The whole [present church] building seems to be of 15th-century date, with modern additions and repairs [...] The font has an octagonal 14th-century bowl upon a modern base and stem. The bowl is moulded and of ogee profile, its faces being panelled with flowing tracery in relief." Described in Tyrrell-Green (1928) as a baptismal font with a curved bowl. Not mentioned in the RCAHM (Buckinghamshire, 1912). The wooden cover is an octagonal pyramid with panelled sides and a double crown-like crenellated moulding; appears modern.
