There are two entries for Grandborough [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SP4966/grandborough/] [accessed 27 January 2015], neither of which mention cleric or church in it. The Victoria County History (Warwick, vol. 6, 1951) notes: "The church of Grandborough was given to the Staffordshire Priory of Ronton, probably by its founder, Robert Noel. [i.e., ca. 1150] [...] The present church dates from about the middle and the tower from about the end of the 14th century. The only evidence of an earlier church is a tomb recess removed from the chancel and now placed outside the east wall of the chancel. [...] The font is a modern octagonal one of stone, placed at the west end." The Grandborough site [http://www.grandborough.info/html/church.html] notes: "The church was erected mainly in the 14th Century and is chiefly in the Decorated style with a little transitional Early English - decorated work [...] the font [...] was the gift of a previous vicar, the Reverend H Bromfield, and his churchwardens, G Robinson and W L Sutton, at a cost of £15 and was placed in the church on 25th April 1846. [NB: we have no information on the font from the mid-12th century church here].
