There is an entry for this Bradley [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/TA2406/bradley/] [accessed 15 August 2018]; it reports three priests and three churches in it. Paley (1844) writes: "One of the largest bowls we have met with is at Bradley, Lincolnshire, which is nearly a yard across." Bloxam (1859) notes the font and provides the text of the inscription. Listed in Romilly Allen (1888) as one of several "later fonts with inscriptions of a religious nature". Didron (1859), even though his description is probably after Paley, gives "Pater noster, Ave Maria, Credo" for the inscription. Described in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a 14th-century baptismal font bearing the following inscription: "Pater Noster, Ave Maria, Criede, / Leren ye Chyld yt es nede." Described in Bond (1908) as an octagonal mounted font of the 14th century in the Decorated style. The octagonal basin has a large quatrefoil motif on each side, under which, all around the basin, is an inscription [cf. inscription notes]. The underbasin consists of a number of round mouldings decreasing in side. The stem of the base is also octagonal and very short. There is no plinth. Bond (ibid.) reports an inscription on it [cf. Inscription area]. Noted in Pevsner, Harris and Antram (1989): "Dec[orated], but heavily re-cut. With the inscription: 'Pater noster ave maria and criede leren ye chylde yt es nede.'" The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: TA2417106765] [accessed 15 August 2018] reports: "Fine C14 octagonal font with moulded pedestal, column and bowl with carved traceried side panels bearing inscription "Pater noster ave maria and criede leren ye chylde yt es nede"".
