There is an early description of this font in Lysons (1806-1833): "octagonal, and embattled with Gothic tracery, including shields of arms". Listed in Cox & Harvey (1907: 170, 189) as a heraldic baptismal font of the Perpendicular period. Noted in Pevsner (1971): "Font. Perp[endicular], octagonal, with simple motifs."
