There is no individual entry for this Harrington in the Domesday survey. Cox & Harvey (1907) list a heraldic baptismal font of the Perpendicular period here [NB: Cox & Harvey use "Harington"]. Noted in Pevsner, Harris and Antram (1989): "Octagonal. Perp[endicular], with panelled stem and a bowl on whose panels angels hold shields with coats of arms." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: TF3673171856] notes: "Parish church. C13, rebuilt 1854-5 by S. S. Teulon. [...] C15 ashlar font, the shaft decorated with blind perpendicular tracery, the octagonal bowl with 8 shields with single carved heads over." The octagonal basin has a charged shield on each side; the shields are of the 'hanging shield' type, but in this case the hanging handle hooks around the neck of a head, some human (cleric, burgher, etc.), some animal or grotesque [NB: they are not the tradional angels]; the heads are set between large floral or foliage motifs; the coats of arms on the shields are deeply carved, which has helped their survival and identification; they are said to represent the arms the Copuldyks [aka Coppledike, Coppledyke] and Tilneys, and their respective families; two of them, John and Margaret, who may have been buried in the church, beneath the chancel, are said to be the donors of the font; successive relatives of this couple have monuments in this church. The basin is raised on an octagonal-to-square pedestal base decorated with tracery and floral motifs; the lower base is square with a chamfered top; there is a square block attached to the back ot it, as a standing stone. There is no cover evident in sight.
