There is an entry for Westwick [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/TG2825/westwick/] [accessed 6 May 2014], but it mentions neither church nor cleric in it. Blomefield (1805-1810) writes: "The Church is a rectory dedicated to St. Botolph. In the 19th of Henry III. Sir Peter de Hobois, steward of the abbey of Holm, released all his right in the town and advowson to the abbot. [...] Ralph, the abbot of Holm, released all his right therein in the first of Richard I. by fine, to Roger Bigot, then Earl. [...] The church has a nave and 2 isles covered with lead, the chancel with tile; in the tower 2 bells." We have, therefore, documented evidence of the church here "in the first of Richard I", id est, 1189. The present font is described in Pevsner & Wilson (1997): "Octagonal, early C16, with four lions seated on the base and eight flowers and fleurons against the bowl. Traces of the original polychromy show through a later red colourwash." Noted and illustrated in Knott (2006): "the 15th century font, which is magnificent in a part of Norfolk where they tend to be older and rather more humble". The underbowl has angel heads at the upper volume, large flowers on the lower one; the base has buttresses between the lions, and the lower base is moulded. Raised on an octagonal plinth.
