Noted in Cox & Harvey (1907). Described and illustrated in Cox (1923) as a cylindrical stone font of the Norman period, plain except for the band of zig-zag carving at top with cable moulding. The basin is almost cylindrical, with a slight tapering towards the bottom; at the upper rim is a rope moulding, below which is a band of palmette motif in up-and-dowm arrangement, the gaps between them forming a zigzag; this is probably what Cox referred to, unless it has been re-carved since [NB: it appears to have been drastically cleaned, perhaps even re-tooled, but probably not re-carved]. It is now mounted on a quadrangular block with chamfered corners; probably not original; the wooden cover is flat, round and plain; appears modern.
