There are two entries for Reighton [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/TA1275/reighton/] [accessed 17 February 2015], but neither mentions cleric nor church in it. A font here is noted and illustrated in Prickett (1831). Noted in Bulmer's Directory of 1892: "The font is a choice specimen of very early work. It is square, having a cylindrical pillar with base and capital at each angle, and the sides sculptured with diaper-work of different patterns. The tracery on one side, it is said, is found only in the Catacombs of Rome, and on another side the pattern is similar to some of the diaper-work behind the stalls of Canterbury Cathedral." Described and illustrated in Bond (1908) as a rectangular unmounted baptismal font of the Norman period; it has an engaged decorative column, with a scalloped capital, at each angle; the four sides of the bowl ornamented with "diaper work" pattern. Listed in Cox-Harvey (1907) as a Norman font. Described and illustrated in Tyrrell-Green (1928), who describes the decorative pattern here as "a diaper [...] formed by the multiplication of circular forms". In Pevsner & Neave (1995): "Excellent Norman font. Square, with demi-columns in the corners. Cable moulding. Sides decorated with saltire crosses small and large, rosettes, lozenges and a cluster of columns."
