The Gentleman's Magazine (issue of July-Dec, 1860) reports the visit of the Cambrian Archaeological Society, and the comments by a Mr. G.T. Clark on the church of Llanidan, "which he declared to be in a very discreditable state. There was an old font within it which ought not to be rolling about in the manner they had found it". Described and illustrated in Tyrrell-Green (1928) as a tub-shaped (quasi cylindrical) baptismal font of the Norman period, ornamented with a high-relief foliage pattern of "decided Classic feeling"; it is raised on a plain square lower base/plinth. Peter Lord, in Diwylliant... (1998-2003) suggests that this font and the one at Llangeinwen may have been produced by the same workshop. This relationship with Llangeinwen, as well as with the fonts from Llantrisant and Llangwyllog is also noted in Thurlby (2006) who suggests a date in the last third of the 12th century for all of them.
