Font Notes:
Described in Walker (1887): the font is rectangular in shape and so is the basin well; the sides taper in and the bottom is circular, with a central drain hole. It appears totally plain. This font was once believed to be haunted and was therefore exorcised. Verbatim Information related by the Rev. W.A. Stark to Walker [ca. 1887]: "when old Mrs. Martin was proprietrix of Kilquhanity, this font used to stand on the lawn in front of Kilquhanity House. Occasionally at night unearthly sounds proceed from it, giving rise to the conjecture that it was haunted. Mrs. Martin consulted her parish minister, then Mr. George Greig, on the subject. He is said to have advised that it should be sent down to the manse to be exorcised. This was done and it is certainly here now. I am not aware that any sounds proceed from it, unearthly or otherwise." (source: Walker 1887, p. 395)
