Font Notes:
Described and illustrated in Pike (1989: 16) as an octagonal baptismal font that "would seem to be of a later date than the other Cushion Capital types but yet it has a certain resemblance to Cushion Capital as as the eight panels fit together in pairs making up four sides to the bowl [...] The font is made of sandstone and has a cylindrical basin", with a central drain that is blocked. Pike reports that both the pedestal and the plinth "have been repaired" and and cites Lord Killanin and Michael Duignan, authors of the Shell Guide to Ireland (p. 67), who "describe the font as 15th Century and say it was taken from St Declan's Church or Cathedral" although she points out that the said cathedral "has Romanesque arcading and sculpture".
