Font Notes:
Described and illustrated in Roe (1968: [89]-91 and pl. XXXVI) as a "finely dressed font [...] octagonal in form with rather shallowly chamfered under panels", and identifies the octagonal shaft of the base as modern, although the lower part of the base may be original. Of the two shields, Roe identifies one as the "Cross of Human Salvation" and adds that the poorly incised inscription (IN HOC SIGNO VINCES 1716) is a later addition; Roe identifies the second shield as bearing the arms of the Butler family, and further states that the font may be "the sole surviving item from the Earl's [Earl of Ormond] benefactions to St. Mary's Abbey."
